STORMAGIC® SVSAN HA KIT ENABLES BUSINESS CONTINUITY IN VMWARE ENVIRONMENTS WITHOUT THE COST OF SHARED STORAGE

Cost-effective HA storage solution

Eden Prairie, Minn. – November 17, 2009 –StorMagic®, a fast-growing developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, announced today a High-Availability (HA) kit of its SvSAN™ solution that allows organizations to benefit from advanced VMware virtualization features, which enable Business Continuity (BC) without having to incur the costs traditionally associated with shared storage.

On November 19, StorMagic will be hosting a webinar titled “Kick-Starting Business Continuity with a Complimentary SvSAN HA Kit” to show how organizations can make possible “always-on” business at no extra cost and get a head-start on enabling Business Continuity with the VMware platform. To reserve a seat, please visit https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/802119019.

High Availability (HA) has become a mandate for most businesses irrespective of their size, IT budgets, or even the current economic climate. However, many IT administrators today do not have the resources to deploy HA features, because they cannot afford the cost and complexity of the shared storage, one of the elements required in order to activate these features.

StorMagic’s SvSAN HA Kit gives organizations the shared storage they need to unlock HA features such as VMware High Availability (HA), VMware VMotion™ and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), maintaining online applications and constant accessibility. The SvSAN HA kit offers the following advantages to users:

Enables VMware HA, VMware VMotion™ and VMware DRS

Offers the benefits of an included Virtual SAN with HA

Gives continuous access to datastores

Can help protect corporate data

Eliminates the cost and complexity of external shared storage

Maintains online applications and constant accessibility

“The number of critical IT requirements is growing rapidly and yet the technical and financial resources available to them is mostly staying flat,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing at StorMagic. “With our SvSAN kit, we are empowering our users by giving them the tools to take advantage of some very powerful features in their VMware environments.”

Users can download the SvSAN HA kit at www.StorMagic.com; this will provide a 2 TB SvSAN for an unlimited time, a 30-day High Availability license, and introductory support during the install phase. After the trial period, users can purchase the HA option for as low as $995 per node.

STORMAGIC® RECEIVES CHANNEL RECOGNITION

Solution Providers, Users, and the Channel Media Applaud StorMagic’s Channel Strategy; Company Adds New Channel Partners

Eden Prairie, Minn. – September 22, 2009 –StorMagic®, a fast-growing developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today announced that it has expanded its channel network in the United States, Europe, and Australia. By contacting StorMagic or one of its resellers, end-users can obtain a promo key for a free copy of the SvSAN™ software, with no expiration date, and management up to 2 TB. This unique offer along with the enterprise-class features of the SvSAN storage virtual appliance received positive reviews from channel partners, users, and the media. The SvSAN has been recently named one of CRN’s Top 20 Storage Products from VMworld. Only a few weeks ago, StorMagic became one of CRN’s 2009 Emerging Virtualization Vendors, as well as one of CRN’s 25 Coolest Emerging Vendors of 2009. The channel publication has also mentioned StorMagic on its Emerging Vendors blog as one of the “5 New Kids on the Storage Block,” a list that includes “a few of the coolest storage vendors” its editors have identified.

The CRN Emerging Technology Vendors list showcases technology vendors that are delivering high margins for solution providers with innovative and easy-to-use technologies. Solution providers tell CRN that they are driving a higher percentage of sales and profits from emerging vendors and their technologies in the midst of the economic downturn. This is due to emerging vendors delivering more innovative solutions at a better price for customers, which in turn drive higher profits for solution providers. Among the new partners who have recently joined the StorMagic worldwide network are resellers in the United States: Champion Solution Group in Fla., Logical Computer Solutions in Ala., Dirsec in Colo., and CIO Solutions in Calif., as well as a reseller in Europe, eFellows from Bulgaria, and one in Australia, ApplaudIT.

SvSAN is a storage virtual appliance for VMware environments that provides shared datestores by leveraging the disk drives of VMware ESX. With SvSAN, users can deploy a high-availability shared storage solution for VMware environments for less than US$2,000.

“Here at StorMagic we know that our channel partners are vital in our success, and I am glad to see a well-known channel publication such as CRN recognize our efforts,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing at StorMagic. “Our partners always tell us that we allow them not only to differentiate their portfolio with a unique solution for their customers’ VMware environments, but we allow them to also bring immediate, ‘hot’ leads to their database. Once a customer downloads the free, full-feature base software, the solution provider knows that the respective customer has a strong need for this software and there is a strong possibility to upgrade in the near future.”

StorMagic SvSAN works with VMware vCenter™ Server to enable administrators to manage datastores, the StorMagic iSCSI SAN, and the internal RAID controller from a single interface. With capacity starting at 2 TB and scaling to unlimited storage, the SvSAN lets administrators create, manage and provision datastores through a single-operation. Add-on features include active-active mirroring for high-availability and capacity management upgrades..

STORMAGIC® ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR VMWARE VSPHERE™ 4

Company to Demonstrate Storage Virtual Appliance at VMworld 2009

Eden Prairie, Minn. – August 26, 2009 –StorMagic®, a fast-growing developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today announced that the StorMagic SvSAN™ storage virtual appliance is supporting VMware vSphere™ 4, which includes VMware ESX and VMware ESXi. Qualified users can get a free copy of the SvSAN for management of up to 2 TB and with no expiration date by visiting the StorMagic booth #2536 at VMworld 2009, August 31 through September 3, in San Francisco, Calif. At VMworld 2009, StorMagic is also sponsoring a “Crack-the-Vault” contest that gives attendees an opportunity to win $10,000 in cash, and also learn how they could save thousands of dollars.

The StorMagic SvSAN is designed to enable the deployment of a high-availability shared storage solution for less than $2,000, allowing VMware vSphere 4 users to take advantage of enhanced server virtualization functions without the need to purchase expensive shared storage.

Introduced in April 2009, VMware vSphere 4 is the industry’s leading virtualization platform, transforming datacenters into dramatically simplified cloud infrastructures to enable the next generation of flexible, reliable IT services. VMware vSphere 4 is the most cost-effective way for small businesses to enable ‘Always On IT’ – the high availability, reliability, and manageability of enterprise-class operations optimized for small and midsized businesses.

“With its support for VMware vSphere™ 4, the StorMagic SvSAN can now better manage our infrastructure as an efficient, flexible and dynamic virtualized environment,” said Kim Tauchen, director of operations/IT at Direct Enterprises, Inc. “Smaller companies like ours have similar needs to the enterprise, so to have an option like the SvSAN that cost-effectively delivers enterprise-class features is terrific.”

“Customers are responsive, in part because they are now able to create, manage, and provision storage in their VMware environments through a user-friendly console,” said Scott Brousse, chief technology officer at PBG. “On top of this, the StorMagic solution allows them to build a business continuity plan, knowing that they can get the simplicity they want without giving up high availability – through rapid and automated failover - and performance.”

“We are now offering VMware users storage virtual appliances to manage the storage infrastructures of virtualized environments,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing at StorMagic. “We launched SvSAN a few months ago, and the interest we have experienced from the VMware community is amazing. Our tests in real-world environments have shown that the SvSAN addresses the shared storage needs of SMBs and remote office environments, and delivers similar performance to external storage with a comparable number of disk drives.”

StorMagic SvSAN includes features users would expect from an enterprise-class SAN and provides optional licenses for high availability and capacity management. By turning unused storage capacity into a virtual SAN, the solution is designed to enable users to take advantage of advanced features of VMware environments such as VMware High Availability (HA), VMware VMotion™ and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), without the need for an external SAN. StorMagic SvSAN is also designed to work with VMware vCenter™ Server, so that administrators are able to manage datastores, the StorMagic iSCSI SAN, and the internal RAID controller from within the VMware vSphere Client and VMware vCenter Server.

With capacity that starts at 2 TB and scales to unlimited storage, the SvSAN enables administrators to create, manage and provision datastores through a single-step process, which allows them to rapidly deploy datastores without managing multiple applications. Add-on features include active-active mirroring for high-availability and capacity management upgrades.

Channel Partners to Benefit from Pre-Configured Intel-Based Solutions with StorMagic Software

Eden Prairie, Minn. – July 28, 2009 – StorMagic®, a fast-growing developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today announced the availability of a validated configuration for StorMagic SvSAN™ and VMware Infrastructure 3 for ESX 3.5 software on the Intel® Server Board S5520UR.
STORMAGIC™ GROWS SVSAN CUSTOMER BASE IN FIVE VERTICALS

Company Adds End-Users in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, and United States

Eden Prairie, Minn. – July 07, 2009 – StorMagic®, a fast-growing developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today announced that, following the launch of the StorMagic SvSAN™ storage virtual appliance, the company has recently added worldwide customers in five verticals: education, professional services, utilities, software development, and manufacturing. Customers include Eastbourne Technology College and FMS Ltd in the United Kingdom, ClassBase in the Netherlands, as well as Vermillion Community College, Onslow Water and Sewer Authority, Analog Devices Clark Realty, and Mitsis LLC in the United States.

The StorMagic SvSAN has been helping large and smaller organizations alike achieve highly available shared storage by leveraging the internal disk drives of the VMware environment at a fraction of the cost of traditional SANs. By turning unused storage capacity into a virtual SAN, SvSAN allows IT administrators to benefit from high-end features of the VMware platform such as VMware VMotionTM, and can deploy a high-availability shared storage solution for VMware environments for less than US$2,000. The StorMagic SvSAN also works with VMware vCenter™ Server to enable administrators to quickly and easily configure and manage the entire virtual environment from a single management console.

“Our customers and project sizes may be enormous, but our IT budget is not,” commented Joel Hurford, principal at Mitsis LLC, a StorMagic customer. “We needed a shared storage solution that provided high availability and ease-of-use to support our VMware servers without making a significant investment and keeping the current ones.”

“The StorMagic SvSAN allows us to get a much higher ROI from our VMware implementation while enabling us to take advantage of features we had not been able to afford before,” said Sam Gaw, technical director at FMS Ltd. “In the current climate, a storage solution that allows us to maximize existing resources and improve availability will get the thumbs up from most budget holders.”

“We are very pleased with the success our SvSAN has been enjoying across the United States and Europe. I believe this is due to the fact that, for the first time, our customers unlocked unutilized storage in their VMware environments without adding the cost and complexity of traditional data storage approaches,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing at StorMagic. “Our customer and reseller bases have been growing steadily, and we are confident that the strength of our products will enable continued growth in the server virtualization market.”

“We are looking forward to working with StorMagic because the SvSAN will help us differentiate our offering and make us more competitive,” said Frank Westerhout, CEO at Dutch-based StorMagic reseller ClassBase Software & Westerhout Beheermaatschappij BV. “Many products are offered for VMware environments, so it takes one that truly stands out from the crowd in order to secure business, and I am confident that StorMagic’s SvSAN will be a clear advantage for us.”

“The recruitment of VMware-focused partners puts us head-to-head with more traditional, larger competitors, but we are looking forward to the challenge,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing at StorMagic. “SvSAN is a disruptive solution that allows our customers and partners to extend their VMware environments into a highly available infrastructure without the cost and complexity of traditional SAN approaches. Today, this is very appealing to all end-users out there who are closely monitoring their CAPEX and OPEX.”

StorMagic SvSAN works with VMware vCenter™ Server to enable administrators to manage datastores, the StorMagic iSCSI SAN, and the internal RAID controller from a single interface. With capacity starting at 2 TB and scaling to unlimited storage, the SvSAN lets administrators create, manage and provision datastores through a single-operation, which allows them to rapidly deploy datastores without managing multiple applications. Add-on features include active-active mirroring for high-availability and capacity management upgrades.

STORMAGIC SVSAN™ STORAGE VIRTUAL APPLIANCE SURPASSES 1,000TH DOWNLOAD

Customers Benefit from High-Availability Shared Storage Solution for VMware ESX Environments

Eden Prairie, Minn. – April 1, 2009 – StorMagic®, a fast-growing developer of iSCSI SAN management software for virtualized server environments, today unveiled the results of its promotion following the launch of the SvSAN™ storage virtual appliance. Over the past six weeks, the website has been inundated with requests for the software, and, as a result, users have downloaded more than 1,000 copies of SvSAN.

“We came across the StorMagic SvSAN promotion and decided to try it out, because the software addresses a need that we have been unable to meet for some time,” said Jacob Cooper, president and owner of Cooplabs. “The SvSAN passed the test with flying colors; building the SAN with the VMware ESX host’s internal drives was very straightforward and, after only a few minutes, we were up and running.”

Many features of the StorMagic SvSAN have had a strong reception; from the VMware vCenter™ integration capability that allows end users to manage their datastores, RAID and iSCSI SAN right from within VMware vCenter, to using VMware VMotion™ without the need to purchase an expensive SAN, the feedback has been impressive. The StorMagic SvSAN high-availability option has also been a hit with end users. “To be able to create a high-availability infrastructure with shared storage for less than $2,000 is rather unique. To have it include responsive and thorough technical support is indispensable,” said Joel Hurford, a principal at Mitsis LLC.

“If you need any more proof that the VMware world needs a simple easy way to make storage-related problems all but disappear, just look how fast StorMagic’s product has taken off,” commented Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “More than 1,000 people have already downloaded their stuff, and the word back is nothing short of stunning. These guys could attain cult status at this rate.”

“We are impressed with the response that the SvSAN has triggered; it shows that there is a marked need for an easy-to-use solution that allows small to mid-size organizations to build a cost-effective, virtual SAN,” said Mike Stolz, vice president of marketing at StorMagic. “Many organizations that downloaded the software as part of the promotion are already implementing it in their VMware ESX environment, and are leveraging the internal disk drives as a virtual SAN.”

The channel community also welcomed the StorMagic SvSAN, because it addresses a huge gap in the SMB space. The solution has allowed resellers to target many unutilized VMware ESX hosts without the required shared storage to perform advanced tasks such as VMware VMotion, Single Operation Provisioning and automatic HA discovery.

The StorMagic SvSAN is available today through a worldwide network of channel partners at an MSRP starting at US$995 for a single virtual appliance license and 2-Terabyte capacity management license; capacity management licenses are available for 4, 8 and unlimited terabyte configurations. Qualified customers can get a promo key for free access to the StorMagic solution (not a trial version) by visiting www.StorMagic.com.

Technology Strength, Management Track Record, and Company Vision Make StorMagic a Winner

Bristol, UK – 7th November 2007 – StorMagic™, a fast-growing developer of storage management software, today announced that is has been selected as one of the 24 winners of the 2007 English Tech Tour, which showcases the country's most promising emerging technology companies to selected venture capitalists. StorMagic was one of nearly 300 entrants being evaluated in great detail by the leading UK venture capital organisations that make up the Selection Committee; the reviews considered several aspects of each company, including business model and vision, management quality and track record, vision, capability to execute, and technology.

“There has never been a more exciting time to set up a high-growth technology company in England,” said Keith Arundale, president of the English Tech Tour 2007. “Last year, there was three times the amount of technology investment in England compared with 2004, and funding for technology ventures increased an incredible seven-fold in the UK overall.1 We've come a long way since the previous Tech Tour was conducted and the outlook for the technology sector is positive.”

“I am extremely excited to be among the winners of the English Tech Tour 2007, and I am very proud of the StorMagic team. This is a tremendous endorsement for us, as it validates our belief that there is a strong need for a truly user-friendly, cost-effective storage management solution in the SMB market today,” said Hans O’Sullivan, CEO of StorMagic and former co-founder of Eurologic and Elipsan, both acquired by Adaptec. “Although we have no immediate need for funding, we are looking forward to working with potential investors with a view to our future investment requirements.
STORMAGIC™ ANNOUNCES EASY-TO-USE STORAGE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM ORGANIZATIONS

Emerging Software Developer Brings Enterprise-Class Storage Capabilities to SMBs

Bloomington, Minn. – September 25, 2007 – StorMagic™, a fast-growing developer of storage management software, today announced the StorMagic SM Series™, an iSCSI-based Storage Area Network (SAN) solution for small and medium businesses (SMBs). This highly reliable software allows organizations with limited IT resources and growing data storage demands to store, share, manage and protect data through a single, easy-to-use interface. Primary storage functions such as data migration, consolidation, and management are now accessible to SMBs at an affordable price, without compromising on performance and without the need for specialized storage skills.

“I was impressed to see that StorMagic specifically designed their storage system for the SMB market,” said Tony Asaro, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “It isn't enough to provide a GUI or intuitive management commands but to think about the holistic experience of implementing a SAN and then managing it for the long term. That is what StorMagic did from the onset, creating an experience with the SMB user in mind.”

“Finding an affordable and reliable storage software solution that would work seamlessly with our current Novell servers was challenging,” said Jon Edwards, an IT Officer in the Faculty of Mediaeval and Modern Languages and the Linguistics faculty at Oxford University. “Although pricing and ease-of-use are two vital requirements for most educational institutions today, we knew that we couldn't compromise on reliability either. As we look after two faculties at this university, we need to make sure their data are always protected. StorMagic's software offered us a network-based data protection solution at the right price.”

“StorMagic's goal is to solve SMB users' storage challenges without introducing complexity or the need for additional resources. We have developed a solution for this demanding environment by providing a comprehensive storage management tool that offers a very compelling return on investment,” said Hans O'Sullivan, CEO of StorMagic and former co-founder of Eurologic and Elipsan, both acquired by Adaptec. “Through our strategic partnerships with local channel partners, end-users can non-disruptively install the StorMagic software in their current heterogeneous environment while preserving their existing investments. Our shared application storage (iSCSI SAN) yields significant financial advantages to end-users, who do not have to purchase additional hardware and software to benefit from comprehensive data migration, consolidation and management.”

By using the simple, Windows-based interface of the SM Series, users can get through set-up and configuration in less than ten minutes, without impacting their ongoing activities. The software allows them to logically consolidate all storage volumes into a single pool, making it easier to manage and adapt to their changing business needs. Capacity usage and throughput are monitored, and can be balanced and optimized by dynamically migrating volumes. Data protection is carried out locally using RAID and snapshot technologies for backup, data retention, or compliance purposes. System management can take place both locally and remotely, without the need for on-site IT administrators, making the StorMagic software an ideal solution for small businesses and branch offices. The StorMagic software supports Windows, as well as Novell NetWare, Linux (RedHat, SuSE), and Mac OS X.

Pricing and Availability
The StorMagic software is available now through a worldwide network of channel partners at an MSRP starting at US$8,000/£4,000.

STORMAGIC™ HELPS OXFORD UNIVERSITY INCREASE DATA PROTECTION

Bloomington, Minn. – September 25, 2007 – StorMagic™, a fast-growing developer of storage management software, today announced that the Faculty of Mediaeval and Modern Languages and the Linguistics Faculty at Oxford University has started deploying its storage management software in order to increase data protection across these units. The StorMagic software is being deployed to manage a 12-bay Fibrenetix RAID solution populated with six 500GB Hitachi SATA hard disk drives (3TB of raw data formatted to 2TB of data in a RAID 6 configuration).

Oxford University counts more than 130 nationalities among its student population of over 18,000, and together, the two faculties employ a staff of nearly 250 and count more than 100 post-graduate students.

“We knew that finding an affordable solution that could work seamlessly in a Netware environment and that would effectively transition us to a networked storage model while giving us reliability, support, and ease of use was going to be a challenge. Like most educational establishments, for us, money is not a bottomless pit,” said Jon Edwards, an IT Officer in the Faculty of Mediaeval and Modern Languages and the Linguistics Faculty at Oxford University, who will be using StorMagic for these two faculties with more than 350 staff and students.

Before the deployment of the StorMagic software, in order to protect their data, the IT team responsible for the two groups above backed up multiple servers' storage, at the time directly attached, to a central location every night. Now, all file storage is being moved onto the RAID solution to be managed by the StorMagic software. Future-proof scalability is ensured by the extra bays, which will be populated as the need for increased capacity grows.

“Our servers and direct-attach storage infrastructure were dated and we wanted to deploy a cost-effective, network-based data protection solution that would work with our Novell and Linux servers,” continued Edwards. “The development team was flexible, they listened to our feedback and incorporated it into the web-based user interface.”

StorMagic is an iSCSI-based solution built from the ground up for SMBs and includes features such as data migration, replication, and consolidation to allow users to share, manage and protect data even with limited IT resources and no storage expertise. Differently from other storage management software products currently available, StorMagic is well within financial reach of SMBs and yet does not compromise on performance or capabilities.

“Although requiring performance, interoperability and scalability like most organizations, educational institutions have traditionally faced the double challenge of limited human and financial resources in the IT department,” said Hans O'Sullivan, CEO of StorMagic and former founder of Eurologic and Elipsan, both acquired by Adaptec. “As one of the most prestigious educational establishments in the world, Oxford University is expected to provide its students and staff with the best service across the board, be it quality of teaching or level of data protection. I am thrilled to say that StorMagic has helped them meet one of those expectations.”

Through the StorMagic solution, storage volumes are consolidated into a single pool to simplify capacity management and allocation. The software enables users to monitor and balance physical storage resources to ensure maximum utilisation rates. Thanks to the web-based interface, users can manage the storage either locally and remotely, thus dispensing with the need for on-site resource administration. The StorMagic software supports Windows, as well as Novell NetWare, Linux (RedHat, SuSE), and Mac OS X.
