Fresh oil for the StorMagic machine

April 3, 2013 in Multi-Site, News, Storage, SvSAN

Recently StorMagic appointed Sonny Bennett to direct product management at a critical point in the company’s rapid growth. Sonny bring over 14 year of experience as a storage architects and takes a senior role in defining product requirements for enterprise organizations with multiple distributed sites.

“It is critical that our products address the specific challenges of branch-office environments, including availability, performance, serviceability and centralized management,” explains Hans O’Sullivan, CEO of StorMagic.

StorMagic is experiencing continued success because of a significant demand for enterprise-class virtual storage for virtual server environments. In recent news, a big-box retailer saved over $10m on hardware alone by implementing StorMagic’s SvSAN across their 2200+ stores instead of other competitive virtual storage appliance (VSA) solutions.

VTUG Winter Warmer 2013 – Attendee Interviews

February 7, 2013 in Events, Multi-Site, News, Storage, SvSAN

In January the StorMagic team spent their day at the VTUG Winter Warmer at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough exhibiting the virtual storage appliance (VSA) SvSAN and holding sessions on how SvSAN is eliminating the need for network storage to achieve remote site redundancy.

While there we had to take the opportunity to interview the attendees on how their remote sites are setup and what the impact is on the business when those systems go down.

And here it is.

In the breakout session “Networked Storage for Remote Sites and Retail Stores“, StorMagic CEO, Hans O’Sullivan, will be discussing how storage virtual appliances cost effectively address the challenges inherent to remote sites including HA, ease of management and performance.

There will also be live demonstrations of StorMagic’s storage virtual appliance , SvSAN, which enables enterprise organizations to achieve affordable high availability across distributed remote stores/sites.

StorMagic Joins the Cisco Developer Network as Registered Developer

October 18, 2012 in News, SvSAN

Today we announced that we have joined the Cisco Developer Network as a Registered Developer and that we have completed Cisco’s Interoperability Verification Testing.  Registration has been completed within the Unified Computing Systems technology category and interoperability testing has been completed with C-series – Cisco UCS C220 M3 (VMware 5.0 Update 1).

As part of the Developer Network, StorMagic can collaborate closer with Cisco to meet the needs of joint customers. StorMagic customers can more effectively deploy a wider range of Cisco Compatible applications, devices, or services that can enhance the capabilities, performance, and management of their Cisco network.

Our Top 3 Highlights from VMworld 2012 San Fran & Barcelona

October 15, 2012 in Branch Office, Events, News, Virtualization

We’re on the right track

StorMagics storage virtual appliance (SVA) SvSAN has been developed for enterprise organizations managing multiple branch/remote offices. VMworld 2012 continued to validate our development path as we were inundated with visitors to our booths who were specifically looking for a solution such as SvSAN to enable VMware HA and other features at their branch offices.

The key features organizations are looking for at the branch office are:

  • Minimal hardware
  • Low acquisition and maintenance costs
  • Low IT resource requirements
  • Centralized management, deployment and resolution
  • High performance
  • Scalability and Flexibility

It’s not all going to the cloud

Gradually more and more organizations are adopting “the cloud” as part of their branch office IT infrastructure. But regardless of which strategy they utilize i.e, private, public or hybrid; it’s not all going to the cloud.

The cloud provides many benefits to the end-user and the central office but it is still limited by its inability to guarantee business continuity at the branch. After speaking with many cloud solution providers and booth visitors, most agree that organizations are still and intend to continue to run business critical applications on site.

Cisco recently wrote this great article which identifies what branch applications are being moved to the datacenter/cloud and which are staying in the branch: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps10598/white_paper_c11-611291.html

SSD, VDI, & Persistent/Non-Persistent VMs

To refer back to my first highlight and the key features organizations are looking for at the branch office, these are some of the key pieces to that puzzle for many IT administrators.

The advancement in these technologies has been extraordinary and organizations are turning to them and SVAs to help achieve more reliable and cost effective branch office environments

VMware Ready Certification – why is it important?

September 26, 2012 in News, Storage

As you’ll already know, VMware is the biggest hitter in the world of virtualization with its installed base market share at 65%, according to Gartner. There are many solutions on the market that are designed for VMware environments but have not gone through the relevant testing to affirm compatibility and stability.

VMware Ready Certification ensures that a solution has passed a detailed evaluation and testing process managed by VMware and is listed on their Partner Product Catalog. Passing this testing helps ensure that the solution makes best use of VMware technology and is ready for deployment in customer environments.

Without this certification it is difficult for potential users to have 100% faith in both the reliability and support of a solution and can leave you in difficult situation if/when support is needed.

Storage Virtual Appliance solutions have their own set of testing which ensure that the solutions are capable of providing a sufficient level of performance and stability in presenting mirrored shared storage to support VMware features such as High Availability, Fault Tolerance and vMotion.

So remember to look for the VMware Ready Logo and always double check the VMware Partner Product Catalogue.

StorMagic Growth Fueled by the Demand for Multi-site Deployments of SvSAN

September 19, 2012 in News, Storage, SvSAN

We recently announced that we saw a 300% increase in consolidated revenue in Q4 compared to Q4 2011. In Q4 2011 we saw a 160% increase compared to the year before that and we anticipate to see this year on year growth trend continue.

The ongoing growth is mainly down to StorMagic’s niche in Multi-site enterprise environments. Most of our customers are enterprise organizations with multiple distributed sites that need affordable, flexible, low cost shared storage at each site. StorMagic has dedicated its development of SvSAN to the demands of these organizations but continues to accommodate the needs of SMB’s. This dedication has given StorMagic’s SvSAN a firm footing as one of the, if not the only, leading Storage Virtual Appliances for Enterprise organizations.

StorMagic had great success at VMworld in San Francisco and will be in Barcelona for round 2. Come round booth 630 and see SvSAN 5 in action as well as how SvSAN fit around the unique needs of the enterprise market.
